In 2011, we crafted a small collection of guitar straps that soon fell into Mayer’s hands and appeared on the Born & Raised live studio sessions. This strap showed back up on the ensuing 2013 tour paired with his blonde ’52 Fender Tele. The guitar & strap soon disappeared together for a good minute…until nearly 10 years later when the infamous Tele was busted back out on Dead & Co ’22 Summer Tour. And sure enough the strap took the Long Strange Trip right along with the guitar. A match made in heaven. Check out the photo gallery for the story in images, then and now.

We’ve been collecting these Deadstock textiles for 30+ years, repurposing them into small batch goods. The right time to cut/sew always seems to reveal itself. This was that time. So we dug through our vintage fabric collection & managed to find the same roll that we cut John’s original guitar strap from in 2011. We fired up the sewing machine & started stitching.

Each beanie features a piece of this original textile. This jacquard was originally woven in the late 1960’s on an early perforated card loom, exclusively for the Ace Guitar Strap Company. It has been extremely well cared for over the last 50+ years and remains in pristine condition. It is the ultra rare 2-inch width characterized by geometric center ovals & classic wide arrow 12-thread edge work. A very rare pattern, and color.
